Butterfly Weed is a power plant, well known as one of the milkweed larval host plants to Monarch caterpillars. Due to its deep tap root, it is drought tolerant, but also slower to emerge in spring. It is the perfect punch of color when paired with the yellow and purples of our summer-blooming natives.
Butterfly Weed is a nectar source for various pollinators, specialized bees, and adult Monarchs. It is a larval host not only for the Monarch, but also for the Gray Hairstreak and the Queen and Milkweed Tussock moths.
Monarch caterpillars need sufficient milkweed to have the best chance of survival; for this reason, we sell milkweed plants in sets of 6 plants.
This is a six pack of quart size plants.
