Trumpet Honeysuckle 'Major Wheeler' is well known for its profuse red blooms from spring through summer. It is a semi-evergreen to evergreen native vine growing in well-drained, medium moisture. This vine twines to heights of 10-20 feet and widths of 3-6 feet, blooming on old and new wood, and is a lovely addition to a fence, arbor, or trellis. Coral Honeysuckle 'Major Wheeler' has a long bloom time, starting in NC as early as April, blooming through summer and sometimes into fall.
Native to the southeastern United States, Coral Honeysuckles attract hummingbirds, butterflies, some moth pollinators, and bees. Birds eat the berries. It is a host plant to the Snowberry Clearwing Moth and Spring Azure butterflies.
While often stated as deer resistant, deer may graze on the foilage.
