This is the near twin to one of my favorite plants! Not only does it hold its evergreen basal rosette, complete with that beautiful Dark purplish-red foilage that gives this plant its name, but it also has the most charming cottage garden style blooms held aloft nice tall stems. Best of all, you get to watch the bees wiggling their way into the blooms. Also attracts hummingbirds!
Dark Towers typically has more purplish pink blooms than its twin.
'Dark Towers' Penstemon prefers well-drained soil in full sun and is drought tolerant once established. It can also take a fair amount of moisture as long as it is well-drained. It is also deer-resistant: My deer munch the foilage in winter when there is nothing else available. By spring, my local deer have moved on to more favorable plants and left it alone. This is a durable and gorgeous plant for all seasons.
